McKie's release down to system, not ability Simply put, LINKED REMOVED BY ADMIN a fullback doesn't really fit into a Mike Martz offense, meaning McKie probably knew his days in Chicago were numbered when Martz got the job back on Feb. 1. In a perfect world, the eight-year NFL veteran is scooped up by a quality team, LINKED REMOVED BY ADMIN committed to running the football. McKie didn't see the field much in 2009, and is no doubt to eager to show people he can still play.
One lasting memory of McKie's tenure in Chicago came near the end of the 2008 season LINKED REMOVED BY ADMIN. The fullback shredded his quadriceps muscle during a practice leading up to a road game with the Vikings in late November. McKie refused to be placed on injured reserve, instead doubling up on his daily treatments, with the hope of being healed enough to play if the Bears made the postseason. He actually dressed for the regular season finale against Houston, but as we know, the Bears failed to make the playoffs.
Here's hoping McKie lands on his feet.
Meantime, LINKED REMOVED BY ADMIN he Bears had to beef up their depth at cornerback, which explains the acquisition of Tim Jennings, who was primarily used in nickel situations for the Colts last season. Although smaller in stature -- like D.J. Moore -- Jennings played in a similar system in Indianapolis. More importantly, after Charles Tillman and Zack Bowman, there isn't a whole lot of confidence in the other cornerbacks currently on the roster. Adding another veteran body was necessary this offseason, since the future's of Nathan Vasher, Corey Graham and Moore are cloudy at best.
